BEND, Ore. -- The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Wildland Fire Service are preparing for several prescribed pile burns across Central Oregon as part of ongoing fuels reduction and forest health projects.
These burns will take place in the Cline Buttes and Williamson Creek areas once weather and fuel conditions are appropriate for safe ignition.
Planned units include:
• Cline Buttes (four units totaling 3,696 acres) located west of Redmond and southeast of Sisters
• Williamson Creek (three units totaling 2,312 acres) located between Prineville, Bend, and Brothers
These projects target accumulated hand and machine piles to help reduce wildfire risk, improve firefighter safety, and support ecosystem resilience.
Burns may begin as early as next week in areas where piles remain from previous work, with additional units to follow. Local notifications will be provided prior to ignition, and smoke may be visible in surrounding communities. Crews will be on site to ensure burns are conducted safely.
We’ll continue to share updates as conditions develop. Thank you for your patience as we complete this important work for the landscape and local communities.
