BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend police arrested a man on Friday who is accused of firing at least three shots in the air after a dispute near the 7-Eleven on NE Franklin Avenue earlier in the week.

Around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday night, officers responded to a shooting complaint in the 200 block of NE Franklin Avenue, Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.

Investigating officers determined that two men in a Subaru Forester arrived at 7-Eleven just before 8 p.m. Miller said the passenger went in and made a purchase.

At 8:17 p.m., the passenger got back in the vehicle and brandished a black firearm. The vehicle drove into the alley behind 7-Eleven, where the passenger exchanged words with a man.

"The passenger got out of the Subaru, pointed the firearm at the man and then fired it in the air multiple times," Miller said. "The Subaru then sped westbound through the alley, away from the scene."

Over the course of several days and using video surveillance, officers identified the suspect as Nicholas James Williams, a 34-year-old Bend resident.

On Friday afternoon, officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Williams' vehicle in the 500 block of SW Bond Street. Police arrested him on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and menacing, and took him to the Deschutes County Jail. A jail officer told the Bugle he was released Friday evening, pending a January court date.

Officers also executed a search warrant at Williams' apartment in northwest Bend and found both the gun and clothing used in the crime.
