BEND, Ore. – A 15-year-old Bend teen was arrested on menacing charges Tuesday, accused of pointing a realistic replica gun with laser sight at a group of teens at a northwest Bend apartment complex, police said.

Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to the reported dispute at the Westside Village Apartments on NW Albany Avenue, during which the gun was displayed, Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.

Officers soon learned that a 17-year-old had gotten into a confrontation with the 15-year-old “over social media,” Miller said in a news release.

“The 17-year-old victim was hanging out with friends in a car outside the suspect’s apartment building when the 15-year-old suspect exited his apartment and pointed a gun at each member of the group, using a laser sight,” she said.

Members of the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team (CERT) responded to the scene, Miller said, and around 7:40 a.m., “officers called the 15-year-old out of the apartment.” He was detained without incident.

Officers executed a search warrant on the 15-year-old’s apartment and recovered a realistic replica handgun with laser sight. Miller said the teen was taken to the Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice facility on suspicion of three counts of menacing.
